Privacy Policy

How we handle your information.

We collect the minimum information we need to run the magazine and the Public Voice platform. This page explains what we collect, why, and your rights.

Last updated: 2026

What we collect

  • Account information you provide when you sign up (name, email, display name, optional profile bio and state).
  • Content you submit — Public Voice proposals, comments, story nominations, contributor applications and attachments.
  • Newsletter subscription details, including interest categories you choose.
  • Basic technical information (device type, browser, general location) to keep the platform safe and reliable.

How we use it

  • To operate your account and the services you sign up for.
  • To moderate Public Voice submissions and enforce our guidelines.
  • To send newsletters and account emails you have opted into.
  • To prevent fraud, abuse and misuse of the platform.
  • To comply with our legal obligations.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not share your data with political parties or campaign organisations.
  • We do not use your submissions to train third-party AI models.

Cookies and analytics

We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which stories readers find useful — never to identify individuals.

Your rights

You can request access to the personal information we hold about you, correction of anything inaccurate, and deletion of your account and data. Contact us through the contact page.

Contact and complaints

If you have a privacy concern, please tell us first — we will respond in writing. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

This policy is provided for transparency and will be finalised in consultation with Australian privacy counsel prior to broad public launch. It is not a substitute for legal advice.
